What is one fun fact about you?
I have lived all over the world including Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. It has helped me to appreciate many different cultures and viewpoints that helped shape my belief that everyone has an important contribution to make and needs to be treated with respect.
What is one thing that you like about working at Stanford?
Stanford is an inspiring place for innovation with so many incredibly smart people (students, faculty, and staff) working on new and exciting projects. It's complex, with many layers to this cake, but you get to collaborate in ways that you wouldn't expect. There's always something new happening, and the atmosphere is energetic. It's the kind of place where you're encouraged to dream big and go for it, and I'm thrilled to be part of it.
Tell us briefly about an event, project, program or initiative you were involved with at Stanford that you're most proud of.
In my career at Stanford, there have been so many great opportunities. I've had the honor of contributing to transformative programs, from co-creating the Menus of Change University Research Collaborative with 74 international member universities to playing a key role in the Stanford Food Institute, which focuses on the nexus of food, health, and the environment. I've had the pleasure of working with donors on significant campus enhancements, from the football stadium to the Arrillaga Family Dining Commons, enriching student life and campus facilities. I've built collaborations with celebrity chefs such as Jaime Oliver and Tanya Holland to infuse creativity into our culinary endeavors. I've partnered with amazing faculty on pioneering research that pushed the boundaries of knowledge in nutrition, health, and sustainability. A major achievement has been to unify the student meal plan and expand the campus offerings to foster a more inclusive community. Over the years, I've been able to engage with many extraordinary students, witnessing their growth and later success, which has been especially rewarding.
What is one of your favorite memories while working at Stanford?
I was able to work with Condoleezza Rice when she was the Provost and I was a new employee. Before she left for the White House for the first time, she made sure to tell me how much she appreciated the work that I had done supporting her. It made a real impression on me as she was so busy and a senior university leader. I didn't think she even knew who I was. I was immensely grateful that she took the time to do this, and it was a leadership lesson on the importance of thanking all our staff at every level for the hard work they do each and every day. They are a key part of what makes this university great!
Leave your Legacy: What piece of guidance would you give a new hire at Stanford?
It's essential to immerse yourself in the unique culture of Stanford and learn about it. Take the time to explore and understand the Stanford values, traditions, and the way we work together towards shared goals. Make sure to also familiarize yourself with the vast array of resources available- they're here to help you succeed and grow. Get ready for an exciting journey ahead. You're about to ride on a rocket ship!
