What is one fun fact about you?
I love learning new things and I love music. After finally going to Hawaii, I returned with a new ukulele and a desire to learn it so I browsed the internet for online instruction and found a great teacher. I now play 20+ songs on my little uke.
What is one thing that you like about working at Stanford?
What don't I love about working at Stanford? My colleagues are like family to me. Stanford is a nurturing environment where I can constantly reinvent myself through hard work, experimentation, and mentorship. I love that Stanford has always accepted me for who I am and challenged me to become more. Stanford promotes collaboration and lets me create great things with others while building permanent relationships. I love that Stanford is a place for a career, not just a job.
Tell us briefly about an event, project, program or initiative you were involved with at Stanford that you're most proud of.
Where do I start? One of my favorite things in Service Design is working with our Stanford clients. Collaborating with them to create eye-opening experiences like all-day team-building retreats (H&S 2022) or teaching Introduction to Service Design allows me to see their enthusiasm for learning new concepts and that they want to take what they learned further and incorporate new practices into their workstreams. It's gratifying.
What is one of your favorite memories while working at Stanford?
Just one? While getting a golf cart stuck between two bollards was embarrassing but hilarious, I think my favorite memory is being offered an instructor position with IT (the Departmental Systems Group) to teach the campus community all about the new thing called the internet and how to use our first commercial email product, Eudora!
Leave your Legacy: What piece of guidance would you give a new hire at Stanford?
Try to learn as much as you can about Stanford University's business. This can be achieved by taking classes or even moving from one position to another. The experience of different roles during your career goes a long way. Learn, learn, learn!
