What is one fun fact about you?
I love to cook. My life revolves around family and friends; our love is often shared through table fellowship. Creating those moments by preparing and delivering meals to family brings me happiness. The moments that come out of that preparation bring me joy.
What is one thing that you like about working at Stanford?
I particularly like that Stanford values relationships. Those I work with and those I help in my various roles are colleagues, not co-workers or customers. Many relationships may last only moments, but many have lasted decades. It's as if Stanford has given me a second family, one of lifelong friends.
Tell us briefly about an event, project, program or initiative you were involved with at Stanford that you're most proud of.
Honestly, it's not these types of things that make me "proud." In perhaps a small way, what makes me feel like a valuable contributor to Stanford's mission is ending an interaction with a colleague knowing that my assistance moved them from anxiety, frustration, or even anger to a place of comfort or calmness by addressing their issue that affects their ability to contribute to the mission.
What is one of your favorite memories while working at Stanford?
In an early role with what was the Stanford News Bureau, I got to meet lots of famous people: the former President Jimmy Carter, Mexican President Felipe Calderon, and others.
Leave your Legacy: What piece of guidance would you give a new hire at Stanford?
I'd give them the same advice a colleague once gave me: I had been working at Stanford for several years, and honestly just gone back and forth between the parking lot and my office. That was my view of Stanford. One weekend, a colleague took me out on campus. We went to Hoover Tower, Memorial Church, Cantor, The Barn, a student residence, and many more places. She explained to me that there are many reasons that Stanford is a great place to work, and skipping any of them minimizes your overall appreciation of that. She taught me that I was missing out on the physical, historical, educational, and cultural beauty of campus...all part of the allure of the environment in which I am lucky enough to find myself every day.
